Minimally Invasive Surgery

Our surgeons at Ob/Gyn Associates are skilled in minimally invasive surgery and have been applying these techniques for decades.  We strive to employ these surgical approaches when deemed appropriate and safe.

In minimally invasive surgery, surgeons use a variety of techniques to operate with fewer incisions that result in less injury to the body than traditional open surgery.  In general, these techniques are safer and allow for a faster recovery.  The majority of these procedures are outpatient (you go home the same day) or require a simple overnight stay in the hospital.  This also translates into lower cost and less risk of hospital-based infections.  Typically healing is with less pain and scarring.

Hysteroscopy

A narrow telescope is inserted into the cavity of the uterus using no incisions.  Small instruments can then be threaded through the hysteroscope to perform an operation.  Hysteroscopy is typically done to evaluate or treat abnormal bleeding due to a variety of reasons including fibroids and polyps.

Laparoscopy

A narrow telescope is inserted through a small (approx.. 1cm) abdominal incision.  Tiny surgical instruments are then inserted through other small incisions to perform the required surgery. Typically a total of two to four incisions are required depending on the procedure performed.  Laparoscopy is often done to evaluate pelvic pain, treat ovarian cysts, treat endometriosis, excise scar tissue from prior infections or surgeries, perform sterilization or to perform hysterectomy.

da Vinci Robotic Surgery

Dr. Randall Jack is our skilled expert in performing surgeries using the da Vinci Robotic System.  When appropriate, he will use this system to perform more difficult surgeries such as complicated hysterectomies, removal of fibroids or treatment of extensive endometriosis and scarring.  This system allows enhanced visualization with a magnified, three-dimensional view and offers exemplary precision and control for gynecologic surgery.
