Pregnancy

Our obstetricians are dedicated to providing the best possible care for you and your baby. We provide comprehensive and compassionate pregnancy care from conception to delivery. While most of our patients experience uncomplicated and healthy pregnancies, some pregnancies develop complications or are “high risk” from the start. Our experienced and highly trained physicians will manage most high risk pregnancies. Examples include twins, gestational diabetes, high blood pressure and pre-eclampsia, preterm labor, cervical insufficiency, and placenta previa.

Planning for Pregnancy

As you plan for pregnancy, we offer pre-conception care and counseling. We can make recommendations about lifestyle changes, genetic testing, vaccinations, medications and vitamins. We recommend taking prenatal vitamins while trying to become pregnant as well as discussing all prescription medications and herbal supplements with your physician before and after your become pregnant. We encourage all women to plan pregnancy for the best possible outcome.

Your First Obstetrics Visit

Once you are pregnant, we encourage you to contact our office to arrange an appointment during the first trimester. At that time we will confirm your pregnancy and discuss routine prenatal labs as well and any optional genetic testing and testing options for birth defects. At your first obstetrics visit, you doctor may perform a transvaginal ultrasound to visualize the early pregnancy. Typically, if an ultrasound is performed, a photograph can be provided to you for your scrapbook.
