After evaluation of the efficacy and safety data of Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccination, the FDA has issued an emergency use authorization in all individuals over the age of 16. A similar evaluation of the Moderna vaccine is in process and expected to be approved as well.
OBGYN Associates has reviewed the efficacy and safety data of both vaccination clinical trials as well as the recommendations set forth by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine. At this time we strongly encourage ALL our patients over the age of 16, including those who are pregnant and lactating, to consider receiving this vaccination.
We recognize there is a paucity of efficacy and safety data for the vaccination in certain populations. With the understanding of the mechanism of these vaccines we deem that the benefit outweighs the risk. The ultimate decision to receive the Covid-19 vaccination belongs to the patient and their decision to receive the vaccine will not affect their standard of care in our office. Please consult your physician specifically if you have unique concerns regarding your health condition and the vaccination.
We are confident this vaccination alongside masks and proper social distancing can bring a swifter end to our public health crisis.
