High-Tech 3-D ultrasound
is the top of the line in ultrasound technology. For
many expectant parents a hazy black and white snapshot
provides the first glimpse at life in-utero. Though
the technician can identify the smallest internal organs
with the machine, parents are lucky to recognize a
foot, a arm or even the fetus itself. The new 3-D ultrasound
machine provides a completely different look. The new
look is accomplished in much the same way as standard
ultrasounds, but with two added dimensions; depth and
real time.
The new machine can perform traditional
scans in 2-D quality, but it also will provide a
rendering of the surface of the outside of the fetus
in three dimensions. Then, the rendering can be converted
into real-time, moving images." Of course, there
are limitations as to what we see; the baby still
calls the shots. If the baby is face down, for example,
we won't be able to visualize the head" says
Debbie Browne the practice sonographer. Debbie has
20 +plus years of experience with an Associate of
Applied Science Degree in Radiologic Technology.
She loves her job and enjoys being a part of this
wonderful time in our patients lives. |
